Emerald Cultural Institute celebrates 20 years... To commemorate our 20th anniversary in 2006, we decided to change the distinctive logo that had represented our school for many years. As many of you will recall, our previous logo was an artist’s impression of our Victorian mansion headquarters in Palmerston Park. While continuity is key for us and has always been, we believe that taking a fresh look at what we do is also important. The solution for our new look? We discovered quite by chance that the original brass doorknob on the front door of our headquarters is in fact a Celtic symbol that has appeared over the past 10,000 years in many forms and with different meanings in different societies and cultures. Choosing this as our logo seemed both to represent continuity and to symbolise this constant movement of peoples and exchange of cultures that is so much a part of what a language school represents. We hope you like it! Irish Minister for Education visits the Emerald Cultural Institute...
We were delighted and honoured to welcome the Minister for Education, Mary Hanafin, to officiate at the celebration of our 20th anniversary in August 2006. Seeing so many of the people who had contributed to the growth of the school over the years gathered together to celebrate this anniversary made the evening very special. The Minister spoke about the contribution the Emerald Cultural Institute has made to quality English language programmes in Ireland and of the importance of the language-school industry to Ireland, both in terms of tourism and also in helping in the development of international education at all levels. Working Holiday Scheme between Japan and Ireland - study at the Emerald Cultural Institute whilst working in Ireland...
The governments of Japan and the Republic of Ireland have introduced a Working Holiday scheme between both countries. In operation since January 01st 2007, this provides wider opportunities, particularly for young people, to experience the culture and general way of life of the host country. The aim is to promote greater mutual understanding between Japan and the Republic of Ireland. This scheme makes it possible for citizens of one country to enter the other primarily for a holiday over an extended period and to be able to take work incidental to their holiday in order to supplement their travel funds. The Japan Association for Working-Holiday Makers (JAWHM) is a non-profit organisation, established under the authorisation of the Japanese Government. This Association is the only organisation in Japan that specialises in providing assistance for the participants in the Working-Holiday Program. Please visit their website for detailed assistance with your travel preparations: www.jawhm.or.jp Once in Ireland, why not enhance your work options by taking an English language course at the Emerald Cultural Institute? With supervision from our experienced staff, we can assist you in preparing your curriculum vitae for Irish employers. We will also guide our students availing of the Working Holiday scheme through a typical Irish interview process. For further information please contact the Emerald Cultural Institute directly. Celebrating Korea’s Thanksgiving Day at the Emerald Cultural Institute
In early October our Korean students suggested we celebrate the Korean Thanksgiving Day – Chu’sok. At the Emerald Cultural Institute we are always keen to embrace the different cultures present in the school and so were delighted to take this opportunity. The event generated great interest about Chu’sok and all things Korean within the school. The Korean Embassy in Dublin was most supportive in supplying us with Korean magazines and DVD's for the day. The party was a great success. Korean food and drink was provided for all to sample. The food was delicious and the excellent wine warmed our hearts. To create a truly festive atmosphere, two of our students dressed up in traditional costumes and lots of photos were taken for the school noticeboard!
